Many Companies - With Even the Most Experienced IT Staff - Miss the Real Mission of IT

I have been an IT Professional for 16 years. I have seen many approaches for the use and implementation of technology. It is true that technology makes our lives easier in many ways. I remember the days of going to the grocery store and a nimble fingered clerk ten-keyed the item prices into a register and then tossed the item to the bagger. Now we have a touch screen self-checkout that allows one clerk to monitor 4 or more stations. We have phones that are more than phones with thousands of applications and capabilities to assist us in our daily lives and entertain us. The technology however, when you stand back a bit, looks busy and noisy at times.
